As bilingual mothers and founders of Binibi, we often reflect on the journey of raising our children with two languages. While the path isn't always easy, the rewards of seeing our little ones flourish in both English and Spanish make every effort worthwhile. As Valentine's Day approaches, we're sharing what we love the most about raising bilingual children, hoping to inspire other parents on their own bilingual parenting journey.
Ana (co-founder): My favorite part about raising bilingual children is seeing my girls interact with their grandparents and feel a connection to El Salvador, where I was raised. Watching them share stories and special moments with my parents in Spanish creates bonds that transcend generations.
Luciana (co-founder): There's so much I love about raising my bilingual children, but what I love most is opening up their worlds beyond El Salvador (where I live). Watching my children navigate both languages makes me extremely proud. Their confidence in communicating in both languages shows me that every bedtime story, every conversation, and every moment spent nurturing their bilingual development has been worth it.
Daniela (head of marketing and partnerships): In raising my boys bilingually, I love knowing that I am doing everything in my power to amplify the opportunities they'll have in life and keep them tied to their cultural roots. It's truly the best of both worlds: I get to support their learning of the primary language of the country they live in, English, while keeping their cultural and native language, Spanish, alive as well. I love knowing that they practice English at school and get home to a family that interacts, jokes, loves, and has fun in Spanish.
It was our shared passion for raising bilingual children that led us to create Binibi bilingual books for kids. As mothers, we understood firsthand the challenges of finding engaging, high-quality bilingual resources for our little ones. We wanted to create something that would make the journey easier for other parents – something that would bring joy to the process of learning two languages. Our children's sound books are born from this vision, crafted with love and understanding of what both parents and children need to make bilingualism a natural, enjoyable part of everyday life. We believe that every child deserves the gift of connecting with their heritage, embracing new cultures, and having a world of opportunities open before them through the power of language.
